The Raytown Arts Council's summer musical for 2014 is Kiss Me Kate, music and lyrics by Cole Porter. All three performances will be presented at Raytown South High School, 8211 Sterling Ave., Raytown, MO 64138.
The story involves the production of a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew and the conflict on and off-stage between Fred Graham, the show's director and his leading lady, his ex-wife Lilli Vanessi. In 1949, it won the first Tony Award presented for Best Musical. Some of the more famous songs are: "Why Can't You Behave," "So In Love," and "Too Darn Hot."
